MUY IMPORTANTE

Please take some time to read this

before leaving for SOULstice!

Here are some general Soulstice tips & guidelines

PRE-SOULSTICE

*     Truck(s), van(s) and/or trailer(s) needed :   to load up the Soulstice gear & supplies in the day(s) before Soulstice weekend?  There is a generator, audio gear & shade structures available in San Diego & Orange County to be brought up.  Maybe stuff in L.A. and/or Bay Area, too.  If you have space to carry stuff in your vehicle, speak up at soulstice14@yahoogroups.com and/or say so at the Soulstice 14 FaceBook Group!!

*     Donate:  If you want to contribute $ toward truck/trailer to haul Soulstice gear, for generator gas, etc, email soulstice14@yahoogroups.com and/or say so at the Soulstice 14 FaceBook Group.

DO's & DONT's

*     Carpool :  The less vehicles trampling around out there, the better, right?

*     Leave No Trace ("LNT"):  whatever you bring in, take it out with you when you leave.  That means all garbage and everything.  Pick up other people's trash, too, and take it away with you.

*     No glass??:   This is often recommended, just for safety issues, but was required one year.  Anybody know if it is required this year??  (No beer or wine bottles or any other glass.  If you bring something in glass (try not to!), pour it into a cup to carry around and drink from. )

*     Fire:

        FIRE PERFORMERS:    There may end up being areas designated for fire-performance, but maybe not, so don't do anything until proper authorization.  (But bring your stuff, just in case!)

        BURN BARRELS:  If they end up being allowed, they must have bricks beneath them, cannot be under a tree, and must be prepared with a way to quickly extinguish them (water and/or sand)

        INDIVIDUAL CAMPFIRES:   ???

STUFF TO BRING

*     Whatever you want FOR YOU, PERSONALLY, for camping, eating, partying, hiking, dancing in the great outdoors.

        WATER??:  Be prepared all the water you'll want for drinking, washing, etc.

        SHADE:  You may want to keep your tent or chill area out from direct sunlight.  Carports and pop-ups work well for shade structures.

        TOILET PAPER:  Single-ply is best - and pack it out!

        FOOD, DRINK, PROPER CLOTHING, FLASHLIGHT, SHOES FOR HIKING, SUNSCREEN, GAMES, HAT, SUNGLASSES, SUNSCREEN, WATER GUNS, ETC, ETC, ETC!

*     Decorations/Ambience

        LIGHTING:  extension cords, Christmas lights, rope lights, cheap hardware store clamp lights, film/video/photo lights, stage/theatre lights, lava lamps, disco balls, lighting gels, light stands, power strips, cube taps, ground lifters, etc. ---->  Bring what you got --> the more lights the better

        HANGABLES:  Tapestries, artwork, streamers, etc.  There are trees and stuff to hang things on and from.  Just make sure you clean it up before you leave!

        FIRE ART:  Bring your poi, staff, fingers, etc, BUT DON'T USE IT until/unless it is approved.  The property will be high fire hazard at that time, so fire performing might not be allowed.  Of course, if you're bringing fire performing stuff, you should bring a fire extinguisher, too.

        FIREWOOD??:  Are there firepits/rings?  If so, maybe bring wood.  (and you may want to bring axe/hatchet, too).   NO pallets or treated wood of any type allowed – it is much more of a fire hazard.

        VIDEO PROJECTOR(S)/SCREEN(S)

*     Audio Gear :  speakers, amps, cables/wiring, bass bins, speaker stands/hangers.  The more the better!!  If you have any, bring 'em!!

*     Musical Instruments :  electric, acoustic, electronic, whatever - if ya got it, bring it, make music with it (whether "on stage" as part of the "lineup" or somewhere impromptu)

*     Video Media :  mpgs, laptops, video ipods, videotapes, DVDs, whatever - bring it and plug it into the Soulstice projectors.  Oh, wait, projector needed, too!

*     Audio Media :  vinyl, CDs, mp3s, laptops, ipods, whatever - bring it.  Better if you can prearrange when/where you'll play at Soulstice, but even if you don't, bring it and see what happens!

*     Utilities

        TRASH/RECYCLING:   Bring trash cans & bags for trash & recycling.

        SIGNAGE:  Needed, to mark parking, directions, donation boxes, release forms, rattlesnakes, etc.

        EXTENSION CORDS:  The more, the better.  If you have any, bring 'em!

        TRAIL/ROAD MARKERS:  Glow sticks, solar lamps, LEDs, El-wire all works well to mark trails and roads and turnoffs, bathrooms, etc.

        DONATION BOXES:  The ones Dave S. made for Soulstice X are available in San Diego, if someone can bring those up!  Maybe someone in can devise some well-lit markings so people notice them.

*     Kids :  Bring your kids if you want - it's a good thing.  Just make sure you're able to keep them protected from hot day sun and sometimes chilly nights.

*     Solar Power :    Wouldn't that be great if someone could bring out solar-powered battery setup to run some electricity from?  SOULstice is on Summer SOLstice after all.  If you can make that happen, even if in a small way, that'd be tres cool!

*     Sports/recreation:     In case of open space:

        BALLERS:  soccer, volleyball, whiffleball, dodgeball, kickball, football, etc.

        FRISBEE GOLF:  Dan. M. brought holes to Soulstice X.

        HORSESHOES:  Dan M. brought a set to Soulstice X.

        KITES, CROQUET, LAWN DARTS, SLIP-N-SLIDE, BADMINTON:  All that type of stuff is good to bring

        TELESCOPE:  Stargazing is fun!

*     Food :  Who wants to hook up some meal'age??  (Breakfasts, lunches, dinners)

THEME

*    This year’s theme has been suggested to be Fourteen-related (since it is Soulstice Fourteen and all) - but maybe you have another or better theme suggestion?!

 *    Also, this is the 12th anniversary of Soulstice.  Traditional and/or contemporary 12th anniversary themes are:

        GIFTS:  ??

        FLOWERS:  ??

        GEMS:  ??
